If you are planning on upgrading to Vista, there are hardly any drivers available. They are not the same as XP and most likely you will not be able to find drivers for your hardware at this time. Check with your manufacture for Vista drivers before you upgrade or you may be out of luck for a while until someone comes up with drivers. This is another repeat of XP SP 2.

Three things to remember when you are working with computers.

Icons:
Icons have changed:
• First delete the file called Shelliconcache.
• It is a hidden file, so be sure your Folder View properties are set to "Show All Files".
• Click Start
• Click Settings
• Click Folder Options
• Click View
• If "Show All Files" is not selected, select it and click on Apply
• Click Start
• Click Find
• Key in Shelliconcache and press enter
• When it is found right click on it and select Delete
• Now restart the PC
• The new fresh copy of the file gets recreated at startup if it doesn't exist

Change icons on desktop on win 2k:
• To change the icon you have to make a shortcut of the folder
• Put the shortcut on your desktop and right click it
• Click the change icon button

Restore Icons to Default
• Find the file ShellIconCache and delete it
• Reboot and the file will recreate itself and all icons should be back to default

Hiding All Icons on the Desktop:
• Start the Registry Editor
• Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
  CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
• From the menu select Edit > New > DWORD value
• Name it NoDesktop
• Double-click this entry and give it the value 1
• Close the registry editor and reboot your computer

WWW Icon's Change to IE Icons After A Period of Time
• The icons that you see in the Favorites are stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder. The problem is that folder gets cleared periodically and the icons are gone after that. It's a pain in the butt but the only way to retain them is when you see them appear, do this
• Start>Find>Files, key in *.ico and press enter. Now scroll down and locate the .ico file for your favorite.
• Once it's found, copy the .ico file to any permanent folder. I create a new folder in C:\Windows and named it "Icons".
• Then if you Right click on the Favorite, select Properties, click on "Change Icon", click on Browse and set it to the icon you saved to the permanent folder. Then it will stay in place.

If you have a lot of icons on the desktop and the icons start to change…
• Issues like this often result from corruption of the Windows ShellIconCache.
• It is a "hidden" file in the Windows directory,
  • This is found if you click on Folder Options, View and have "show all files" ticked
• Got to Start
• Click on Find Files or Folders
• Type in
  • Shelliconcache
• Delete it
• Reboot, it will recreate the file on boot up

ALSO


• Repeated problems like that may be due to having a large number of icons and insufficient cache size set for the cache.
• You can remedy that by clicking this file shelliconcache.txt Copy and paste it into notepad.
• Save As iconca.reg
• Then double click on the iconnca.reg icon to merge it into the registry. You should get a confirmation of a successful merge. The file increases the allowable size of the ShellIconCache
  

Replace Corrupt Favorite Folder
• Start up in MS-DOS.
• Type the following lines, each line followed by clicking 'enter':
  • cd\
  • CD windows
  • ren favori~1 oldfav
  • exit or win (to return to Windows)
Menu Toolbar is Missing
• If your windows look like the image below press the F11 Key and it will return to normal
