links to check for a virus or trojan.
AVG is a great "FREE" program and I used to keep a link to the download but they keep changing it all the time and I can't keep this link up to date so Google "Download AVG Free" to get the download link. SORRY!
Avoid spreading E-mail borne computer viruses in Outlook
Express:
Method 1
Create a new contact in your E-mail address book with the name:
!0000 with no E-mail address in the details.
What will happen with this method is that when the E-mail is
sent because one of the names has no E-mail address it will not
leave the Outbox.
It will stay in the Outbox.
If you have e-mails in the Outbox then check them. If you aren't
the creator of the message then most likely it is a self sending virus.
Run a virus scan.
IF you did create the E-mail then check the E-mail addresses
to be sure they ALL are good E-mail addresses.
Start
Programs
Accessories
Address Book
Once the Address Book is open
Click the New pull-down toolbar item
Click New Contact
In the field that says First, type in
!0000
Click OK.
In the field that says Last, type in
!0000
Click OK.
This contact will then show up as your first contact in the Address
Book.
If a virus attempts to do a "send all" on your contact list, you see
an error message that says:
"The Message could not be sent. One or more recipients do not have
an E-mail address. Please check your Address Book and make sure
all the recipients have a valid E-mail address."
If you click on OK, the offending infected message will not have been
sent to anyone. The infected message will then be stored in either your
"Drafts" or "Outbox" folder. You may completely delete (in other words,
not just send it to Outlook's "Deleted Items" folder) the offending message
from that location by highlighting the message, hold down the Shift key
and press Delete, and then confirm.
This way the virus is not spread and you have been alerted so that you
can apply whatever remedy the situation calls for.
Method 2
Open Outlook Express
Click on Tools
Click on Options
Click on Security Tab
Place a tic in the "Warn me when other applications try to send e-mails
as me"
Backup a Personal Folder File (.PST file):
If you are not using Outlook with Microsoft Exchange Server, Outlook will
store all of its data in a Personal Folder file.
If you want to back up or export a particular folder such as Contacts
or Calendar, use the steps in the section: Importing/Exporting Personal
Folder Data.
Use the following steps to back up the entire Personal Folder file: Close
any mail-related programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, or Windows
Messaging.
Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Mail and Fax icon.
If you do not have Microsoft Fax installed, you will see a Mail icon.
Click the Personal Folders service you want to back up.
By default this service is called "Personal Folders", however, it may
have been named something else.
If the service has been named something else, you can determine what
a service is by selecting the service from the list of services and
clicking Properties.
On the dialog box that appears, the title bar will say "Personal Folders"
if the service is a Personal Folders service.
After reading the title bar, click Cancel.
Use this method to check the type of any service you are unfamiliar
with.
You may have more than one Personal Folders service in your profile and
if so, each set of personal folders must be backed up separately.
Note:
If there is no Personal Folders services in your profile and you have
been able to store information such as E-mail , contacts, or appointments
in Outlook, then your information is most likely being stored in a mailbox
on a Microsoft Exchange Server.
If this is the case, see the section titled, Backing Up Data When
Using Outlook with Microsoft Exchange Server.
If there are no personal folders in the list of services and you are not
storing information in a Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox, Outlook can
only be used for browsing files and the features in Outlook that store data
cannot be used.
If this is the case, there is no data to back up.
Click Properties and make a note of the path and file name listed
in on the Properties dialog box.
Note:
You can possibly reduce the size of a Personal Folder file by clicking
Compact Now. This is especially useful if you plan to back up the Personal
Folder file to a floppy disk.
Click OK, then click OK again to close the Properties dialog box.
Make a copy of the file you noted in the note using the Windows 95 Explorer
or the My Computer icon.
For more information on copying files in Windows 95, click the Start
button, then click Help. On the Index tab, type "copying, files" to
view the related topics.
If you ever need to restore a Personal Folder file, simply copy the
backup copy of the file you created with the above steps to the same
folder and name you noted above.
Exporting Personal Folder Data:
Use the following steps to export an individual folder such as Contacts
or Calendar to its own personal folder file.
On the File menu, Click Import and Export.
Click "Export to a personal folder file" and then click Next.
Click the folder you want to export and click Next.
In "Save exported file as", type the name of the file to which the data
will be exported.
Click Finish.

Use the following steps to import a personal folder file into Outlook:
On the File menu, Click Import and Export.
Click "Import from a personal folder file", then click Next.
Type the path and name of the personal folder file you want to import,
then click Next.
Click the folder into which the data will be imported.

Backing Up Personal Address Books:
Although Contacts information may be kept either in a Microsoft Exchange
Server mailbox or Personal Folder and accessed via the Outlook Address Book,
the Personal Address Book creates a file that is stored on the workstation
hard drive. In order to assure that this address book is backed up; you
must include any files with the .pab extension in your backup process.
To locate your personal Address Book file, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
Type "*.pab" (without the quotation marks), and click to select My Computer
in the Look In list.
Click Find Now, to start the search.
Note:

If you need to restore this address book either to the same computer
or a different computer, simply add the Personal Address Book service
to the profile and point to the .pab file.

E-mail : Block messages from a sender or domain:
You can block messages from a particular sender or domain. The domain
is the name following the @ symbol in an E-mail address.
When you block a sender or domain, no E-mail or news message from
that sender or domain will arrive in your Inbox or in the news messages
you read. E-mail from blocked senders goes directly into your Delete
folder.
Newsgroup messages from blocked senders are not displayed.
From your E-mail Inbox or the list of messages in a newsgroup, select
a message from a sender you want to block.
On the Message menu, click Block Sender.
Notes
Blocking a sender applies to standard POP mail only. It does not apply
to HTTP mail (Hotmail) or IMAP messages.
To remove a name from the Blocked Senders list, click the Tools menu,
point to Message Rules, and then click Blocked Senders List.

Set up Outlook or Outlook Express to work with Yahoo mail:
Microsoft Outlook 98 and 2000
Yahoo! Mail users can read their E-mail in Outlook by subscribing to the POP Access & Forwarding service. This service
allows you to use Outlook or another POP3 client to access and manage
your Yahoo! Mail messages.
Outlook allows you to add a new E-mail account to your existing profile.
This means you do not have to replace your current settings in order
to send and receive Yahoo! Mail messages.
Unfortunately, Microsoft Outlook 97 does not support authenticated
SMTP, and thus Microsoft Outlook 97 cannot be used to read Yahoo!
Mail messages.
To add a new E-mail account to your existing profile:
From the Tools menu, select "Accounts." If you do not see
"Accounts," place your cursor over the two arrows at the bottom
of the list to display more choices.
Click the "Add" button.
From the Add menu, click "Mail."
In the Display Name box, type your name as you would like
it to appear when you send a message, and click "Next."
In the E-mail Address box, enter your Yahoo! Mail address
(for example, "user@yahoo.com") and click "Next."
In the box labeled "My incoming mail server is a " select
"POP3" server.
Type "pop.mail.yahoo.com" in the Incoming Mail (POP3 or IMAP)
Server box.
Type "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server
box.
Some ISP's require you to put their setting in here instead
of smtp.mail.yahoo.com
In the Account Name box, enter your Yahoo! Mail ID (your E-mail
address without the "@yahoo.com").
In the Password box, enter your Yahoo! Mail password.
Check "Remember Password" if you do not want Outlook to prompt
you for your password each time you check your mail.
Do not check the box labeled "Log on using Secure Password
Authentication (SPA)."
Click "Next."
Choose the appropriate connection type under the "Which Method
Do You Use to Connect to the Internet" heading.
If you chose "Connect using my phone line," you will need
to select a dial-up connection in the Dial-up Connection Wizard
and click "Next."
Click "Finish."
Important: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication.
To turn this setting on, follow these steps:
From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
Select the "Mail" tab.
Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click "Properties."
Click on the "Servers" tab.
Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."
Please make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"
is not checked.
Click "OK."
To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail server: Make
sure you set this up.
From the Tools menu, select "Accounts."
Click on the "Mail" tab.
Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click "Properties."
Click on the "Advanced" tab.
Check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to
save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as
well as on your local computer. Please note that setting your
E-mail client to remove messages from the server will cause
your messages to be deleted from the server. Once the messages
are deleted, we are unable to retrieve them.
Click "OK."
Close Microsoft Outlook and restart.
Can receive but can't send mail in Outlook
or Outlook Express
If you're able to receive but unable to send mail in your
E-mail client (such as Outlook or Outlook Express), then please
review the following troubleshooting steps below.
In the fight against unsolicited commercial E-mail (spam),
some Internet service providers require their users to use
specific SMTP servers when sending outgoing mail. If you
experience problems sending E-mail , please contact
your ISP to determine if specific SMTP server settings are
required. You will need to use their SMTP server in place
of Yahoo's SMTP server in your E-mail client
The following is a partial list of known ISP-required
SMTP servers:
MSN -- smtp.e-mail .msn.com
NetZero -- smtp.netzero.net
Verizon -- outgoing.verizon.net
Earthlink/MindSpring -- Please visit their help pages
AT&T -- Please visit their help pages
Cox -- Please visit their help pages
Bell Sympatico -- Please visit their help pages
Before a Yahoo user can send mail, Yahoo requires
that the user be authenticated by the Yahoo SMTP mail
server. This prevents unauthorized use of the SMTP gateway
by unscrupulous or malicious mail users.

account:
On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
If View or change existing E-mail accounts is not already selected, click View or change existing

Outlook Form Designer:
Advantages to the Form Designer:
Here are just a few advantages of developing forms with the Outlook
Forms Designer.
Outlook forms are fully 32 bit forms so they're fast, and perhaps
equally important, they're small, averaging about 10K.
Outlook forms are interpreted so they're easy for designers to keep
track of and update.
With Outlook forms, designers don't need to worry about searching
through folders or directories to find uncompiled source files to
make changes to a form.
The Outlook Form Designer provides a grid and a variety of alignment
tools including AutoLayout, to make sure your forms have a professional
appearance.
To set properties for controls and fields that you add to forms, you
use the Properties dialog box in the Form Designer.
To view the Properties dialog box.
With the form in Design mode right click an existing control on
the form.
You can right click the Subject control, and then click Properties
on the shortcut menu.
How to use the Outlook Form Designer:
The Outlook Form Designer is built directly into Outlook, so opening
the Form Designer is as easy as opening a form in Outlook, and then clicking
Design Outlook Form on the Tools menu.
When the form is in Design mode, the Form Design tool bar and the Field
Chooser appear.
As shown in the figure below, you can add fields and controls to the
form by dragging the fields from the Field Chooser to the form.
The Outlook Form Designer Window
When you add a field to a form using the Field Chooser, Outlook automatically
creates a control and a label for the field and binds the control to the
field.
With the Outlook AutoLayout feature, the controls are automatically
aligned with existing controls on the form.

Repairing a damaged Personal Folders PST file: Inbox Repair Tool for correcting most problems with damaged
Personal Folders PST files:
If you do not see the Inbox Repair Tool on the Start menu, under Programs
Accessories / System Tools, use Start / Find to search your system for Scanpst.exe.
When you run Scanpst.exe, it performs a number of tests.
If it finds errors, it asks whether you want to make a backup copy
of the original file
Always say Yes
Then it tries to correct the errors.
For seriously corrupted PST files, try running Scandisk.exe
Look under Programs / Accessories / System Tools first
Then run Scanpst.exe, repeating 3-4 times until neither of he
program return an error.
This technique is known to restore data that the user though was
lost forever.
If the file is on an NTFS volume, you can't use Scandisk.exe so
easily.
One approach, for Windows 2000, is to open the drive in My
Computer and use the Tools menu commands to scan the disk.
You may need to restart Windows for the scan to run.
If that doesn't do it, you can try our tips to repair a 2 gb Personal
Folders file or Offline Folders in Microsoft Outlook.
To repair a 2 gb Personal Folders or Offline Folders file
Microsoft Outlook limits the size of Personal Folders PST files
and offline folders .ost files to 2 gb
If a new or changed item increases the size over than limit,
you will not be able to use the PST or .ost file.
Even if you delete items from the server mailbox, the .ost
file will not synchronize. Use the Crop tool listed below.
Crop tool
To resolve this problem, download the tool from the following Microsoft
Download Center link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=44353&area=search&ordinal=1
NOTE: Use the tool to create a truncated copy of the PST file.
The copy that is left after the tool completes does not have all the original
data because the tool cuts a user defined amount of data from the file.
Recovery Limitations of the 2 GB Truncation Utility:
You must have 2 GB of free hard disk space (to make a copy of the
PST file).
The utility truncates the PST file to under 2 GB. To have enough working
space, truncate the file between 20 to 25 megabytes (MB) less than the
2 GB limit. The truncated data is removed from the new copy, which means
some messages are missing from the recovered copy.
You can use this process to attempt to recover the data, but is not 100
percent successful. If this tool does work, it does not recover all of the
data (the truncated data is missing).
Use the following steps to recover the data:
Download the tool from the following Microsoft Download Center link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=44353&area=search&ordinal=1
Expand the self extracting archive into an empty folder.
Start the Pst2gb.exe program.
Click Browse to select the oversized PST file, and then click Open.
Click Create, select the name and location of the truncated data file
that you want to create, and then click Save.
Type in the amount of the data that you want to truncate in the PST
file. There is not a correct amount that you use. You can receive the
best results if you use 20 to 25 MB, but you may have to truncate more
or less. For example, if you truncate 25 MB of data and the process
works, repeat the process and truncate the original oversize PST file
by only 15 MB. If that works, then try the process with 5 MB. If 25
MB does not work, repeat the process and truncate the original PST by
35 MB. If the process does not work, increase the amount until the process
is successful.
Run the Inbox Repair Tool (the Scanpst.exe file) on the smaller PST
file.
Open the repaired PST file in Outlook.
(This step is recommended but the step is optional) If the file opens,
right-click the root folder of the PST, click Properties, and then click
Compact Now to start the compression. For a file of this size, the compression
may take approximately 4-8 hours.
If the file does not open, discard the truncated PST file, and repeat
the process with the original PST file. Truncate more data than in the
first attempt, and try the process again.
Install the following update or hotfix depending on the version of
Outlook that you have. To do this, view the following article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:
245025 OFF2000: How to Obtain and Install the Microsoft Office 2000
SR-1/SR-1a Update
These updates prevent Outlook from allowing the PST file to exceed
the 2 GB maximum size. Use one of the following methods to manage the
size of the PST files:
Use more than one PST file.
Use the archive feature.
Save attachments to a file system folder and delete them from messages.

Unable to Send Messages in Outlook Express"
If Outlook Express was sending E-mails correctly and then just stopped
sending try the following.
Most times this is caused by the sent folder being to full. Try deleting
the messages in the folders you do not want to keep.
If this doesn't work try the following.
Do a search for Identities, it should be in the Application Data folder.
Open the Identities folder and inside it you will find a file with a
long file name mostly numbers, rename it.
Example: {E80F73A0-C519-11D7-8BB6-D0641E25002F}
If you have more than one rename all of them.
When I rename a folder I usually put a # sign in front of the first
letter in the name.
Example: {#E80F73A0-C519-11D7-8BB6-D0641E25002F}
After renaming all identities open Outlook Express and create a new
identity and see if Outlook Express will send messages.
If so you know that one of the identities is corrupt.
Rename them back to the way they were one at a time until you find
the one causing the problem.
Unable to Send Hotmail Message from Outlook Express Q311022
For information about differences between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft
Outlook Express E-mail clients, Read the article number below in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Q257824 Differences Between Outlook and Outlook Express
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Outlook Express 5 for Windows 98
Symptoms
When you try to send a Hotmail message from Outlook Express, the following
error message may appear:
The server does not support the required HTTP methods.
Hotmail functions normally through the Hotmail Web site. Cause
This behavior can occur if you have multiple Hotmail E-mail accounts
that are assigned to a single E-mail identity in Outlook Express.
Workaround
To work around this behavior, create one or more new E-mail identities
and verify that only one Hotmail account exists for each E-mail identity.
I am getting multiple copies of my E-mails:
Close OE
Go to start
Find (Search, depending on which version of Windows)
Files and Folders
Type in:
POP3UIDL.DBX
Delete this file
It will be recreated when you reopen OE
One more download to get pop3uidl.dbx up to date (OE uses this file to
keep track of what has already been downloaded), and you should be right.
Also, if you have more than one E-mail account on the same POP3 server
(same ISP, different names) then checking the "Leave on server" will not
work because of a known OE bug.
Following is special instructions for Hotmail and Outlook Express:
When you download Hotmail, either do not access the Hotmail folder itself
while downloading, or turn off the option to include Hotmail in a send/receive.
If you access the Hotmail folder (which initiates a download) at the same
time as OE is retrieving from the same Hotmail account, you can (and often
will) get two copies of the E-mail .
How to Troubleshoot E-mail Messages That Are Stuck
in Your Outbox:
Outlook Express versions 5, 5.01, 5.5 for Windows 98
Outlook Express versions 5, 5.01, 5.5 for Windows 98 Second Edition
Outlook Express versions 5, 5.01, 5.5 for Windows 95
When you try to send an E-mail message, the E-mail message may
move to your Outbox and not be sent.
This behavior can be caused by any of the following conditions:
You open the E-mail message in your Outbox before the E-mail message
is sent.
You work offline and have not made a remote connection.
Your sending options are not set to send E-mail messages
immediately by using the correct connection.
Your mail folders or E-mail messages within the folders are
damaged.
Message Opened from Your Outbox
After you send an E-mail message, Outlook moves the E-mail message
to your Outbox When Outlook connects to your mail server, the E-mail message
is delivered and a copy of the sent E-mail message appears
in your Outbox
If you open and close an E-mail message while it is in your
Outbox, the E-mail message may not be sent because you may
have changed its status. If the status of the E-mail message
has been changed, the title of the E-mail message no longer
appears in italic.
To send the E-mail message, open the message, and then click Send.
The message title changes back to the italic format in the Outbox
Messages view.
The next time that you make a connection to the mail server, the E-mail message
is delivered.
You Are Working Offline
To change the Work Offline command:
On the File menu
Click Work Offline
On the Tools menu
Point to Send/Receive
Click the name of the account from which you want to send the message.
Send Options
To make sure that you have selected the correct send options:
On the Tools menu
Click Options
On the Send tab
Click to select both the Send messages immediately and Save copy of
sent messages in the 'Sent Items' folder check boxes.
On the Connection tab
Click Change under Internet Connection Settings
Make sure that the correct dial-up or local area network (LAN) settings
are in the list.
Click OK
Click OK again
Open the message in your Outbox
Click Send.
Damaged Mail Folders
Your mail folders or E-mail messages within the folders may be
damaged.
There are two ways to troubleshoot this type of problem.
The first method is to concentrate only on the Outbox folder.
The second method is to create all new folders.
You can create a new Outbox folder using the following steps:
Exit Outlook Express.
Search your hard drive for Outbox.dbx and delete this file.
Restart Outlook Express.
A new empty Outbox folder is created automatically.
You can create all new mail folders if you create a new identity.
After you create the new identity, you can import your old E-mail messages
to your new identity.
Create a New Identity
On the File menu
Point to Identity
Click Add New Identity.
Type a name for the new identity
Click OK.
When you are prompted to switch to the new identity, click
Yes.
Outlook Express quits, and then restarts with the new identity.
Follow the prompts in the Internet Connection Wizard to configure
Outlook Express for your new identity.
When the Outlook Express Import Wizard starts, click Do
not import at this time.
You can import your files later.
Create a new E-mail message, and then send the new
E-mail message to make sure that the new identity is
working correctly.
Import Messages from the Old Identity to the New Identity
After you send an E-mail message from the new identity,
you can import messages from your old identity:
On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Messages.
Under Select an E-mail program to import from, click
your version of Outlook Express, and then click Next.
Under Specify Location, click your old identity, click
OK, and then click Next.
Click All folders, click Next, and then click Finish.

Click OK.
Outlook.pst Could Not Be Accessed" Error Message When
You Try to Start Outlook
Quit Outlook and log off, and then attempt to repair the damaged Personal
Folders (PST) file by running Scanpst.exe. For additional information about
running Scanpst.exe, Use the article number below to view the article in
the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Q197316 How to Use the Inbox Repair
Tools to Recover Messages
If you still cannot open the PST file, follow these steps:
Run Scandisk.exe or another disk utility on the hard disk to ensure
hard disk integrity.
To make sure that the behavior is not specific to the computer or
to the folder's location on the hard disk, move the PST file to another
location on the hard disk.
Create a new Outlook profile.
Add the relocated PST file to the new profile.
Attempt to start Outlook.
If the PST file is still inaccessible, the file may be damaged beyond
repair. You might have to remove the current PST file from the profile and
create a new PST file. For details about creating a new PST file, refer
to the "More Information" section and select the article that deals with
your installation of Outlook.
Is permission set correctly on the Microsoft Exchange Server
computer?
In order to install and administer event scripts, the user must be granted
at least Author permissions on the EventConfig_servername object in the
Exchange Server directory.
To configure the appropriate permissions:
In the Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Administrator program, select the EventConfig_servername
object from the Folders\System Folders\Events Root container.
On the File menu, click Properties. On the General tab, click Client
Permissions.
In the Client Permissions dialog box, select the Add button.
Select one or more users who will be managing scripts on the server
and grant them a role of at least Author.
Press OK twice.
Is the correct server specified as the Public Folder server?
A setting for the Private Information Store on the Microsoft Exchange
Server computer specifies which server in the Exchange organization will
be responsible for creating and managing public folders.
In order for the Agents tab to appear on the client side, the server referenced
by this setting must be running Microsoft Exchange Server, version 5.5 or
later.
To verify this setting:
In the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program, select the
Private Information Store container for the Microsoft Exchange Server
5.5 computer that contains the EventConfig_servername object.
On the File menu
Click Properties.
On the General tab
Select the Public Folder Server drop down list and select a Microsoft
Exchange Server 5.5 (or later) computer.
This option tells Exchange Server where to obtain the Public Folder
hierarchy, in which the EventConfig_servername folder is listed.
Click OK.
Restart the Microsoft Outlook client.
Is the folder a Public Folder?
To have the Agents tab appear on the properties of a public folder rather
than a user's mailbox folder
In addition to the previous steps, a user must have permission on
the public folder itself.
To configure the appropriate permissions:
In the Exchange Server Administrator program's left pane, expand the
Organization container, the Folders container, and the Public Folders
container. Then double-click on the folder name to open its Properties
page.
Click the Client Permissions button on the General tab and give the
user (or an alias the user is in) Owner rights. Author rights are insufficient
for scripting in a public folder; the Owner role must be assigned.
Note: It may also be necessary to cycle the Exchange Server services in
order to force this change to take effect immediately.
The Agents tab should now appear in the Microsoft Outlook client.
Outlook mail just sits and won't do anything MAPI spooler
could not be opened:
If you are at home and NOT on an exchange server close Outlook.
Go to the Mail item in the control panel.
You should see your list of accounts.
Click on each one and hit Properties and uncheck the box that says something
about send/receive on this account always.
If you know which account the message was sent from, "disable" only that
account.
This keeps Outlook from immediately sending and receiving, which will
allow you the chance to delete the message.
Alternatively, it may be an incoming message.
In this case, you may need to contact your ISP's mail administrator,
or if you have web-based E-mail access, go there and delete the message.

Creating Stationery and Signatures
Description
Despite the abundance of Outlook add-ons and plug-ins for adding letterheads and templates to your e-mails, MS-Outlook by
itself offers an easy way to create and use your own letterhead and
message templates.
MS-Outlook offers two ways of creating message templates: using the Stationery feature or using Signatures
Note: Using Stationery templates you can not insert
a picture as an image within the template (not as a background picture),
so you can only create templates with background images
As a result you can't have a simple letterhead image and a default
greetings text inserted into every outgoing e-mails
Note: You can use the Signature features to create e-mails
message templates or letterheads, although the Signature function
was not necessarily designed for letterheads
Instructions
Open MS-Outlook
Click Tools on the toolbar
Click Options
Select the "Mail Format" tab
At the bottom of the window, click "Signatures"
The following window will open
Click New Button
Enter a name for your new template, then choose to start from
a blank signature
Click "Next"
Locate the image you want to use for the header (instructions follow
next)
If you want to use a text header then just type in the header you
want and position it using the paragraph button
You also choose the font face and style by clicking
on the font button and the advanced edit button to edit
a hyperlink
If you wish to add a letterhead (image) to your message template,
right click within the Signature text edit area and select "Insert
Image"
Browse to select the desired letterhead image, add an alternate text
to it if you wish
Then modify the layout so the alignment is set to "top"
Click "OK"
You can use any image editor to create a simple, nice looking letterhead
image
If you wish to add a default text to each outgoing e-mail when
using an image header, like a text signature or a default
greeting message, then add the text below the letterhead image in the signature text edit area.
You can also add a link to your site, by selecting the text
above which the link will apply, then right click and choose "Edit
Hyperlink".
When you are finished, click "Finish".
This is how our new letterhead looks:

Could be a corrupt or missing file
This issue can occur if the ProgramFilesDir value in the following registry key to install programs has changed from the default
location
If this key is changed before you install any SP update, Outlook
Express no longer functions
A new, empty folder named Outlook Express is created in the folder
that the ProgramFilesDir value points to; however, the program
is still located in the C:\Program Files\Outlook Express folder
The shortcuts to start Outlook Express point to the empty folder
Solution Try one of the following methods listed below
Method 1

Try copying csapi3t1.dll to the Outlook Express directory
instead
Locate the files ctapi3t2.dll and chapi3t1.dll in the
directory named Proof on your Microsoft Office CD and
copy them to the Shared\Proof directory
If you are using Microsoft Office 97 and the language is English,
locate the files mssp232.dll and mssp2_en.lex in the directory
named Proof on your Microsoft Office CD and copy them to the \Shared\Proof directory. If you are using a different version
of Office or Works, locate the Proof directory on the CD and copy the
files with names beginning "mssp " to the Shared\Proof directory.
Note: that the .lex files are dictionaries, and some of them
will be for languages that you aren't using.
Open Control Panel, Regional Settings. Check under Regional
Options that the language selected is the same as that used by Microsoft
Office, i.e. English (United States) or English (United Kingdom).
Open Outlook Express, Tools, Options, Spelling tab and check
that the language selected there is the same as selected above.
If all of the above are correct, and spell checking still doesn't
work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Microsoft Office or Microsoft
